This is my artist statement.

I do whatever I feel like doing at the moment. When a thought comes to me, I think: “That’s a poem. Someone should write a song about that. I want to paint a few paintings for my room.” Sometimes, the same themes thread themselves through a few different mediums.

Rather than consider diversity in artistic practice a hindrance, I choose to see it as a blessing. Yes, I sometimes get confused about what I should be doing at any given moment, but I’ve been given the gift of time. I have time to pursue many artistic endeavours. I tend to be efficient and focused on that particular medium when it’s happening.

Whatever “it” is, it needs to be fun. Knowing when to let go of something you thought was a good idea (or someone else thought was a good idea) is a mark of maturity. Still, finishing brings its own satisfaction.

Next year this time, I’ll have more songs, poems, short stories, and paintings than I had last year. I decided to start a blog just for art so I could share more of it. There’s no sense being prolific if you don’t have an outlet.
